What is the Online Assessment System (OAS)?
The Online Assessment System (formerly known as the CRCT Online System) enables
students in Georgia's public schools to access tests that consist of the same kinds
of questions as appear on two of Georgia's end-of-year assessments, the Criterion-Referenced
Competency Tests (CRCT) and the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT). The
Online Assessment System (OAS) is available throughout the school year so that teachers
can integrate testing on CRCT and GHSGT subjects with their teaching of those subjects.
How does the OAS work?
The OAS provides immediate feedback regarding individual student and group performance
on two types of tests, called Student Tests (which are created by the OAS) and Teacher-Created
Tests. Students and parents have complete access to Student Tests. Teachers are
able to use the OAS to create and assign Teacher-Created Tests. A teacher must assign
a Teacher-Created Test to a student in order for the student to access that test.
How can the OAS be used?
The OAS can be used for a variety of purposes. Students can gain valuable experience
in becoming self-assessors, learning to evaluate their own work and educational
progress. Parents can see the kinds of questions their children will be asked to
answer on the end-of-year CRCT or GHSGT assessments and monitor their children’s
progress. Teachers can create customized tests as they complete instructional units
or sequences of instruction. These tests can then be administered to individual
students and/or groups of students to diagnose strengths and weaknesses, and to
provide opportunities for enrichment and remediation. The OAS contains a large number
of test items in reading for students in grades one through eight, in English/language
arts and mathematics for students in grades one through eight and high school, and
in science and social studies for students in grades three through eight and high
school.
How is the OAS accessed?
School systems assign personal login IDs and passwords to students and teachers
at their schools for use at a specific Web address that is assigned to the school
system (Web addresses are discussed in detail below). These personal logins and
passwords are necessary to access Teacher-Created Tests or to share results obtained
on Student Tests. Parents and others without personal login IDs, however, can log
on to the OAS using the generic login IDs and passwords for each grade, as given
in the table below.

NOTE: Your web browser must allow pop-ups in order for you to log in. If
you get sent back to the login page whenever you try to log in, it is likely that
you have a pop-up blocker operating. For information on turning your pop-up blocker
off, please check instructions from your internet service provider, web browser,
or security software. If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, click here.
NOTE: If you do have the pop-up blocker turned on for your browser you may
be able to hold the "Ctrl" key down while pressing the Logon button. This doesn't
always work for all browsers.
NOTE: Actual logon IDs and passwords will be provided by the teachers.
Upon successfully logging in, you will see the Welcome page, which has three buttons
labeled "Student Tests," "Teacher-Created Tests," and "Logout."
To see a Student Test, click on the "Student Tests" button. This takes you to a
page with icons representing the different CRCT or GHSGT subjects. Click on the
icon of the subject for which you would like to see a Student Test. On the Student
Test page you will see a window and four buttons. Select one of the tests you see
listed in the window and then click on the button labeled "Take Test." Test questions
are presented one at a time. Select an answer by clicking on the button in front
of it. By clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the page, you can go on to the
next question or go back to the previous question.
A button labeled "Grade My Test" appears when you are on the last question. When
you click on the "Grade My Test" button, a warning window comes up telling you how
many questions were on the test and how many of them were answered. If you would
like to review some questions, click "Cancel." When you are satisfied, click on
"Okay."
Test results are reported in three sections.
- The first section gives summary information, including the number and percentage
of right and wrong answers.
- The second section shows which sub-area (e.g., Vocabulary Improvement) each question
fell into, and whether the answer given to the question was right, wrong, or missing.
- The third section gives all the questions that were on the test, with an asterisk
in front of the answers that had been selected.
The system does NOT indicate which answers were correct.
Clicking on the "Return Home" button takes you back to the Welcome page.
When you have finished taking tests, please go to the Welcome page and click on
the Logout button.
