OCS Faculty And Staff
Nurse Ms. Ethel Bolden
Nurse Ms. Bolden, Oglethorpe's school nurse, has been a licensed practical nurse since 1997. Licensed by the State of Georgia, she holds a practical nursing diploma from Savannah Technical Institute. She also earned a certificate in holistic health and has completed continuing education courses through the State University of West Georgia. For four years, Ethel served as a nurse’s aide instructor for Savannah Technical College. This experience, coupled with her tenure as managing nurse of an occupational clinic, has equipped her to administer quality professional nursing services at Oglethorpe. She is married and the mother of three adult children. Among her special interests are working with special-needs children and volunteering with various church ministries.
Technology Mr. Mark Case
Technology Mr. Case came to Oglethorpe Charter School after making a midlife career change and is now in his eighth year. He spent 16 years in sales and marketing for companies like the Campbell’s Soup Company and BlueCross BlueShield. Prior to coming to OCS, Mr. Case worked in the University System of Georgia. He spent two years as a specialized recruiter and advisor at Savannah State University. He then moved to Armstrong Atlantic State University where, for four years, he was a technology coordinator for the enrollment services division. While working at Armstrong, he completed a M.Ed. degree in Counseling at Georgia Southern University. Mr. Case has also earned an Education Specialist degree in Counselor Education and is certified as a school counselor. Mr. Case is boys soccer coach and athletic director.
Language Arts Ms. Kim Chance
Language Arts Ms. Chance is the 6th grade Language Arts writing teacher this year. Kim hails from Pittsburgh, PA, where she earned degrees in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.   In 1980, she was recruited to teach in Georgia and has since added Middle Grades, Elementary Education and Gifted Education to her 'Highly Qualified' certification credentials. Mrs. Chance holds a Master's Degree from Georgia Southern University in Health Sciences. She is one of the teachers of the Gifted in 6th grade, and sponsors the National Junior Honor Society at OCS.

Throughout her years in the educational process in Georgia, Kim has been a classroom teacher, owned her own Montessori Preschool, served as a PTA president, held several board positions, and served as a State Literacy Specialist and consultant.   Mrs. Chance is an ordained minister, who serves in healing and Prison Ministry and teaches a weekly Bible study. Her pride and joy are her three daughters, and her miniature schnauzer, Pinkie.  Ms. Chance loves traveling, reading, and studying the Bible.  
8th Grade Language Arts Ms. Kerry Crain
8th Grade Language Arts A native of New England, Mrs. Crain moved to Savannah 15 years ago. She loves the Boston Red Soxs! During her time in Savannah she finished her BA in English with teacher certification and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in English. She has recently received her reading endorsement and is Gifted certified. She is also certified in AP Language for English Language Arts. She considers herself a lifelong student and will more than likely work on a PhD when her children are a bit older.

Mrs. Crain loves spending time with her family and enjoys writing, reading, hiking, and kayaking.  
She is married to, Justin, a firefighter with Savannah Fire. They have a little girl, who is just over a year old, and are expecting their second child in late January.  To stay centered, Mrs.Crain practices yoga several times a week. 
Administrative Secretary Ms. Cynthia Edwards
Administrative Secretary Cynthia Edwards is the Administrative Secretary at Oglethorpe Charter School. She has lived her entire life in Savannah. She attended South College, drove a Chatham County public school bus for six years, was a secretary at West Chatham Middle School for four years, and has been the face and voice of Oglethorpe Charter School since 2004. She's excited to be here for the 2011-2012 school year!
Fitness And Wellness Ms. Andrea Fenning
Fitness And Wellness Andrea is originally from Orlando, Florida. She is entering her 16th year as an educator. She is currently teaching Fitness and Wellness to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Education K-12 from Armstrong Atlantic State University and a Masters Degree in Education from Cambridge College.

Besides teaching, Andrea is our Lady Titans basketball coach. Andrea enjoys shopping, working out, and attending the many fun and exciting Oglethorpe Charter School events. Andrea loves teaching at Oglethorpe Charter School and is excited about the 2011-2012 school year. And as always, "Go Titans and Lady Titans!"
7th Grade Social Studies Mr. Matthew Finley
7th Grade Social Studies Following in the footsteps of his wonderful mother, Oglethorpe's 8th grade science teacher Norma Finley, Mr. Finley recently chose the career path of being an educator and will be teaching 7th grade Social Studies.

He is in his third year at OCS but has held previous employment as a tutor, substitute teacher, and an archaeological field technician. He graduated from The University of the South with a B.A. in Spanish and holds a double-minor in History and Anthropology. Mr. Finley loves to meet new people, understand new cultures, and has been fortunate enough to travel to Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Japan, China, Spain, Germany, and the Czech Republic. He also enjoys listening to music, playing ultimate frisbee, hiking, bowling, and hopes to start a golf program at OCS at the new OCS location off of Central Avenue!
Science Ms. Norma Vaughan Finley
Science Before coming to Oglethorpe Charter School as part of the original 8th grade team in the fall of 2000, Ms. Finley was privileged to work with learners of all ages. However, it is her love of middle school students and science that brings her the most personal satisfaction as an educator.

Ms. Finley majored in biology and minored in psychology and religion at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her post graduate work includes a master of divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduate courses at Armstrong Atlantic State University here in Savannah. She was voted as 2007 Teacher of the Year by her peers at Oglethorpe. Ms. Finley has been married to her husband John for 34 years! Her children include Nathan, a 2004 Guilford University graduate, Matthew, a 2007 University of the South at Sewanee graduate, and Rachel, a junior at Mercer University.
7th Grade Math Mr. Zach Gallman
7th Grade Math Mr. Gallman is in his second year at OCS, teaching 7th grade Math-Geometry and Data Analysis.  He also coaches  the Titan boys' basketball team and assists the football team.  He is very excited to be at Oglethorpe Charter School and looks forward to challenging these TItans to become quality students and citizens.  Mr. Gallman earned a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Coaching at Georgia Southern University.  He went back and earned a certification to teach Middle Grades Math. He also has a certification in General Special Education.  Before teaching at OCS, Mr. Gallman served as an English/Special Education teacher at Savannah River Youth Detention Center in Sylvania, GA. 

Mr. Gallman has traveled to Thailand during the summer to teach English to Thai college students as well as orphans in the local orphanages.  He loves spending time with his beautiful wife Michelle and baby son Braxton Nathaniel. He also enjoys planting churches and making a difference in the community surrounding him.
Social Studies Mrs. Susan Heard
Social Studies

Susan Heard is new to Oglethorpe this year teaching Georgia Studies (social studies).  She moved to Savannah in October of 2010 to teach English Language Arts at Garrison School for the Visual and Performing Arts.  Mrs. Heard completed her Bachelor of Science degree in education at the University of Tennessee and her Master of Arts and her Education Specialist degrees at Tennessee Technological University.  She is married to Bill Heard, who teaches high school English and Bible History.  She has two children:  Emmalea, 21, and Rebecca, 19.  Mrs.  Heard likes to walk, act, and do needle work.

Science Mr. Warren Hiers
Science Mr. Hiers, who teaches 6th grade science at Oglethorpe, was raised in Savannah.  He earned both his B.S. and MEd. from Armstrong Atlantic State University. Having taught in both Tennessee and Georgia over the last 35 years, he now teaches teachers how to teach science in the education department at Armstrong. Mr. Hiers, a retired professional motocross motorcycle racer, is also a freelance adventure travel photojournalist and a wilderness guide. He enjoys traveling with his wife Vicky and daughters Ellen, age 19 (a graduate of Oglethorpe) and Katy, age 8.
8th Grade Math Mr. Terry Horton
8th Grade Math Mr. Horton is an 8th Grade Math teacher at Oglethorpe Charter School. He has 20 years of engineering and management experience working for such companies as Savannah Foods, Carson Products and Home Depot. Mr. Horton has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Armstrong Atlantic State University, a Bachelor of Industrial and Systems Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and an MBA from Georgia Southern University. He has received his Georgia teaching certifications in math and science and is starting his seventh year teaching math at Oglethorpe Charter School.

Mr. Horton is married to Lori, a preschool Speech Pathologist for the Chatham County school system. They have two children, Thomas, 18, a freshman in college and Kristen, 16, an 11th grader. Mr. Horton enjoys activities with his family, such as boating, fishing and traveling.
7th Grade Science Mrs. Cheryl Jay
7th Grade Science Cheryl Jay is a graduate of Presbyterian College with a degree in biology. She has been a life-long scientist, working for 20 years as a clinical microbiologist at St. Joseph's and Candler hospitals. She is certified to teach science 6-12, and has taught at St. Vincent's Academy, Savannah Christian Preparatory School middle school and Windsor Forest High School. She also has taught at Armstrong Atlantic State University in the medical technology department. She has a son and a daughter.
Assistant Principal Dr. Jennifer Kolman
Assistant Principal Dr. Jennifer Kolman is in her sixth year as an Assistant Principal at OCS. In 1984 she received her B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, where she was the first of only two women and the only African American woman to be inducted into the Missouri Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame (2003). In 2007, she was selected as Tompkins Middle School's Teacher of the Year where she served as Department Chairperson of Health, Physical Education and Dance, while coaching numerous girls' and boys' sports programs. She earned her Masters Degree in Administrative Leadership from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her Ed.S and Ed.D in the same field from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. She and her husband have two sons, Joshua (United States Army, 92 Alpha currently stationed at the Fort Sill Army Base in Lawton, Oklahoma.), and Joseff (a 11th grade music major at Savannah Arts Academy). Additionally, she enjoys traveling with her family to Douglasville, Ga. to spend time with granddaughter, Alyssa Jannelle (3 1/2 years old) and researching “best practices” within her realm of professional responsibilities. When time permits, she enjoys camping and traveling to Missouri, Kansas, and California to see relatives as well as supporting her god-daughter Alessa Danielle Jenkins, (Brescia University Graduate in Owensboro, Kentucky) pursue her professional social work and basketball career. Her motto continues to be, “Good is not good enough, when the best is expected!”
Media Specialist Mrs. Deborah Lindblad
Media Specialist Mrs. Lindblad is the Media Specialist at Oglethorpe Charter School and is in her eighth year at OCS.  Mrs. Lindblad received her B.S. degree at Troy University and is working on her M.Ed. in Instructional Technology at Georgia Southern University. 

Born and raised here in Chatham County, she is the youngest of six children. She is married to Jeff Lindblad and they have two children, Katherine and Joshua.  Her hobbies include reading, working with Georgia PTA, genealogy, camping and she is involved in many activities at her church. Mrs. Lindblad enjoys working with students of all ages and considers middle school students both a pleasure and a challenge. 
7th Grade Language Arts Mrs. Christina McBrayer
7th Grade Language Arts Mrs. McBrayer is thrilled to be teaching 7th grade Reading at OCS for her third year.  Now that she has settled in to Savannah and Oglethorpe, her five years of teaching in upstate New York seem like ancient history!  Prior to teaching, Mrs. McBrayer earned a BA in English Literature from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and a Master’s in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the University of Albany at New York.  Mrs. McBrayer relocated to Savannah to escape the extreme cold and massive quantities of snow and Savannah seemed like the perfect place to build a life.  Mrs. McBrayer also coaches the best middle school volleyball team in the county and  advises a fantastic Reading Quiz Bowl Team.  If you don’t find Mrs. McBrayer in her classroom or with one of the teams, you can find her working out in the gym, spending time with her new husband and her American Bulldog, or reading a good book!
Special Education Ms. Monica McDermott
Special Education Monica McDermott, Oglethorpe Charter School Skills for Adolescents teacher, has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana at Monroe) and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. Since arriving in Savannah in 1990, she has been teaching middle school (her favorite kind of kids!) in the Chatham County public school system. She arrived at Oglethorpe in 2002. Ms. McDermott is currently certified in reading, math, language arts, special education, gifted education, and music. In her spare time, she enjoys local theatre and travels as often as she can.
Fitness And Wellness Mr. Ron Morgan
Fitness And Wellness Mr. Morgan is a Savannah native who began his education attending Calvary Baptist Day School. Before beginning eighth grade he moved with his family to Effingham County where he graduated high school. After high school he decided to follow in his parents footsteps’ and attended the University of Georgia where he graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Health. Mr. Morgan is a third generation teacher who is certified to teach P.E., health, science, social studies, and math. Prior to beginning his work as a Fitness/Wellness teacher and Athletic Director for Oglethorpe Charter School he served as a permanent sub and track coach for South Effingham Middle School, a special education teacher at Ebenezer Middle School, and a science and social studies teacher at Metter Middle School where he also coached girls softball. He tries to maintain an active lifestyle by playing a variety of sports and exercising.
Drama Mr. Michael Graves Moynihan
Drama Mr. Moynihan ( Oglethorpe’s Drama teacher) came to O.C.S. from a long-running engagement at Sol C. Johnson High school. His BA degree was conferred by Centre College in the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth. He later received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Trinity University in slightly more modern times. He has worked in professional theatres in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Nashville, Atlanta, and Savannah. He is still waiting for New York to call.
Director Of Instruction Ms. Martha Nesbit
Director Of Instruction Ms. Nesbit has bee at OCS since 2001, and is director of instruction, responsible for the curriculum and instruction at the school. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and is certified to teach family and consumer sciences, 7-12, and middle grades language arts. She received a Master of Adult Education degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University in December of 2004. She received gifted certification in May, 2009. Mrs. Nesbit is a founder of Oglethorpe Charter School, serving two terms as board president before joining the staff in 2001 as program coordinator.  She serves as the building representative for the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and served for six years as a board member of the Georgia Charter Schools Association. She received the Georgia Charter Schools Association's William L. Moon "Shoot for the Moon" Charter Leadership Award in March, 2010.  She coaches the PAGE Academic team and is the Student Council co-sponsor.

She is also a writer whose cookbook, "Savannah Celebrations," was published in September, 2010. She has been married to Gary for 34 years and has two grown sons, Zack and Emory.  Her passions are her family, food, church, bridge, and travel (she has cruised to Alaska, the Western Carribean, and Europe and loves lobster rolls in Boston and Maine!) She is also passionate about the staff, students and parents of Oglethorpe Charter School! She loves working for one of the best charter schools in the nation!

Language Arts Mrs. Sheri Newton
Language Arts

Mrs. Newton is returning to Oglethorpe after a two-year hiatus. She is coming back after briefly relocating out of state. She is an eighth-year teacher who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education.  She has also obtained her Reading Endorsement and will begin working towards her Gifted certification this year.  She has taught all middle grade levels and has gained  experience from working in several different middle schools.  Although she held a previous career in law enforcement for nine years, she has found teaching to be much more rewarding.  She enjoys reading, making jewelry, and spending time with her family. 

We welcome Mrs. Newton back to OCS!

Visual Arts Mrs. Sarah O'Bryan
Visual Arts

Mrs. O’Bryan is the art teacher here at OCS. This is her eighth year here at Oglethorpe.  She moved to Savannah seven years ago from Shreveport, Louisiana, with her husband Devin. She graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Louisiana Tech University.  She has a two-year-old son, Conor.  She also has a goofy dog named Maeby.  Mrs. O’Bryan enjoys all types of sports, music, and art.  She is also at carpool every morning afternoon, she’s the yearbook sponsor, and a coach, among other things.  If you need anything feel free to stop in and ask.

 

Custodian Ms. Maquitha Page
Custodian Ms. Page is our custodian at Oglethorpe Charter School. She has been employed by the Board of Education for 15 years, including two years as a kindergarten paraprofessional. She is the mother of two boys - Marcus and Tyrese, a 5th grader at West Chatham Elementary. In her free time, she enjoys watching and playing sports.
Math Mrs. Katherine Richards
Math

Ms. Richards is glad to be starting her first year at Oglethorpe Charter School! She will be teaching 7th Grade Math: Algebra & Number/Operations. A graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Mathematics and Science, she is certified to teach math to students in grades 4-12. Prior to coming to OCS, she has taught 9th grade math at Beach High School and Jenkins High School within the Savannah-Chatham Co. School System. Something many are excited to learn is that she was a member of the first graduating class of OCS in 2001.
In addition to her 140 children she cares for during the school day, Ms. Richards is also the proud mother of her young son, Gabriel. Some of the hobbies she enjoys are baking, cooking, scrapbooking, and playing games with friends and family. She has also recently gained in interest in home repair and renovation as a new homeowner.

8th Grade Mathematics Ms. Monica N. Roland
8th Grade Mathematics Ms. Monica Roland is entering her eighth year with the Savannah-Chatham County School System.  The 2011-2012 school term will be her fifth at Oglethorpe Charter School.  Ms. Roland teaches 8th grade Mathematics and Math 1.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Roland has earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Savannah State University -2001), a Master of Education in Secondary Mathematics Education (Georgia State University-2003), and an Educational Specialist in BrainSMART Teaching and Learning (Nova Southeastern University -2008). She is a current member of the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).

Here at Oglethorpe, Ms. Roland sponsors the Math Club and the Robots & Rollercoasters Club.

Outside of school, Ms. Roland enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her Yorkie, Duke.  She also enjoys shopping, watching movies, reading, baking, cultural activities, and sporting events.
6th Grade Math Ms. Christina Royals
6th Grade Math Ms. Royals has lived in Savannah all her life and would prefer it no other way. She graduated with a BA in Middle Grades Education and a minor in music from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She is currently working on her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, math 6-12 through Georgia State University.

This is her seventh year at Oglethorpe and fifth year teaching Math Delta with the 6th grade team. Ms. Royals is passionate about positively impacting the education and lives of her students. She believes Oglethorpe Charter is the best middle school in the nation. In her spare time, Ms. Royals can be found weightlifting in the gym, creating in the kitchen, lounging at the beach, reading,  shopping, or spending time with family and friends. Go Titans!
Spanish Mrs. Cynthia Saxon
Spanish Mrs. Saxon is in her 10th year as a Spanish teacher at OCS. This year, she is teaching 6th grade Spanish Exploratory, 7th grade Spanish 1-A, and 8th grade Spanish 1-B. She received a BA in Spanish and a minor in psychology from Armstrong Atlantic State University, and a master’s degree in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University. She also has studied in Spain and Costa Rica. She has one daughter and three grandchildren - twins Ashley and Kelly, 20, and Marlie, 10, and a great-grandson, Brayden, 6 weeks. She loves to fish, cook, travel, and hang out with her family. Her hobbies are reading and shopping for shoes.
Chorus Ms. Huxsie Scott
Chorus Huxsie Scott is a native of Savannah, Georgia, who has been singing in Savannah since 1973. She has performed with many of the area’s premiere jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras, and was a featured opener for such jazz greats as the late Lionel Hampton and McCoy Tyner. She was the original vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra, and worked for a number of years as the featured vocalist for the great jazz bassist Ben Tucker.

Huxsie has won a number of awards – in 2004, she was inducted into the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall of Fame, was voted Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist by the listeners of WSOK/Clear Channel Radio, and in 2005 was inducted into the Coastal Jazz Association’s Hall of Fame. She was the 2007 winner of the King-Tisdell Cottage Fine Arts Award.
Exceptional Children Ms. Carli Shehane
Exceptional Children Carli Shehane was raised in Delaware and came to Savannah to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in photography, she attended Armstrong State Atlantic University and obtained an education degree. Mrs. Shehane has enjoyed teaching for the past 10 years and loves to take creative approaches to learning. She enjoys gardening and home renovating, but most after school time is spent with three-year old son, Pfeiffer. This is her fifth year as a proud Titan.
6th Grade Mathematics Mrs. Gretchen Simpson
6th Grade Mathematics Mrs. Gretchen Simpson is a 1998 graduate of Indiana University. She completed her college career by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, with an emphasis on math instruction. In August of 2000, she began her professional career teaching a 6th grade math in Southwest Florida. The transition to teaching in Georgia was a smooth one. Mrs. Simpson took over the 6th grade Math Alpha classes at OCS in the fall of the 2007-2008 school year, and has been a proud member of the Titan family ever since!

This year Mrs. Simpson is looking forward to several things. She is hoping that the 2011-2012 school year will provide OCS a repeat appearance at the state level of competition for Odyssey of the Mind (and fingers crossed for the trip to Worlds…). When the spring arrives with the outdoor sports, Mrs. Simpson is preparing to take to the soccer field, ready to reclaim the Lady Titan Girls Soccer championship title, and finally, Mrs. Simpson is planning to build the student rate of success in her classroom, and on the CRCT test, through new approaches to presenting and practicing the math curriculum.
Social Studies And History Mrs. Cynthia R. Smith
Social Studies And History Cynthia Robinson Smith is a 6th grade faculty member at OCS. She is a 22 year veteran educator in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. She taught at May Howard Elementary School for 16 years. This is her fifth year at OCS. Mrs. Smith has achieved her Gifted endorsement and training in various professional learning workshops throughout her educational career. She has a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Savannah State University, certification in middle grades (4-8) with concentrations in language arts, math and social science from Armstrong Atlantic State University, a M.ed in Middle School Education and an Ed.S in School Administration/Leadership from Cambridge College, Boston, MA.  Mrs. Smith is also a National Board Certified Teacher. She is married to Victor R. Smith and is the proud mother of two children - Brandis Victoria Smith, age 23, and Victor Robin Smith II, age 17. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith enjoys baking, reading, singing and traveling. She loves teaching and reaching students daily. It is her desire for students every where to know that they can achieve their goals, if they keep the faith and believe in themselves!
Reading/Literature Ms. Sally Stephens
Reading/Literature

Sally Stephens is returning to Oglethorpe as the 8th grade reading teacher after spending the last three years working as a gifted, AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination), and AP (Advanced Placement) coordinator for Groves High and Bartlett Middle schools.

She holds a bachelor of arts in English and a master of arts in teaching secondary English from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and has completed PhD studies in secondary English curriculum and teaching at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Ms. Stephens has taught English Language Arts at the middle, high school, and college levels for 18 years, three of which were at Oglethorpe Charter School from 2005-2008. She also teaches the gifted middle grades cohort for Savannah-Chatham county teachers who are seeking gifted endorsement. Coaching Odyssey of the Mind and high school policy debate are passions for Ms. Stephens as well.

She has two children: Lily, 16, and Andrew, 12, and enjoys biking, yoga, kayaking, watching Auburn football, and traveling in her spare time. Her latest travel destinations include Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Key West, FL, and Louisville, KY, and she is busy planning her next trip to Heidleberg, Germany.

 

Exceptional Children Ms. Mattie Taylor
Exceptional Children Mrs. Taylor is a Resource teacher at OCS.   She received s a BA from Savannah State (University) in 1975, a Master’s Degree 1998 from Cambridge College and an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum Instruction in 2002 from Cambridge College. She has been employed with the Savannah-Chatham County School System since 1985.

Mrs. Taylor is married and has three daughters and three grandchildren. Mrs. Taylor loves watching sports on television and exercising (walking )in the neighborhood.
Guidance Counselor Ms. Jennieann Trotter
Guidance Counselor

Jennieann Trotter is the Guidance Counselor at Oglethorpe Charter School. Mrs. Trotter is from Gulfport, Mississippi. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi University for Women. She received her Master of Science degree from William Carey College. Mrs. Trotter has been an educator since 1974, having over twenty-one years experience in elementary and middle-school education. She is a certified school counselor for grades K-12. Mrs. Trotter is a member of the Georgia School Counselors Association and the American School Counselors Association. She is also a past member of the Oglethorpe Charter School Governing Board and was chosen as Instructional Support Person of the year for Oglethorpe for 2005. For fun, she enjoys tennis, traveling, and boating.

 

Band Teacher Mr. Eric Turner
Band Teacher Eric Turner has been teaching and arranging music for band for over a decade. He graduated from West Liberty University with a Music Marketing and Computer Programming degree. After an internship at Yamaha Corp. and a programming job with an internet company, Eric moved to NJ to work for the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corp parent organization call Youth Education in the Arts. At YEA!, he directed their band organization called the US Scholastic Band Association, which coordinated over 100 marching/concert/jazz competitions a year and managed over 400 participating schools.

In 2003, he decided to jump into the education world with his first teaching jobs in Newark, NJ, and Garfield, NJ. His Garfield HS band placed 6th in the NJ State Marching Band Championships during their first year competing and had numerous students attend college for music. After growing tiresome of shoveling snow, Eric and his family moved to Savannah in 2007, where he taught band at Hubert MS and Spencer ES. He was fortunate to be hired in February 2009 as the band director at OCS.

Eric has a beautiful wife, Debbie, lovely daughters, Iris and Bella.  However, his first kids will always be dogs Jade, Sammy, Princess, and Sophie.
HR Specialist Ms. Cathy L. Vogel
HR Specialist Ms. Vogel is in her eleventh year as Account Specialist. Ms. Vogel has had extensive experience in the accounting and purchasing fields since 1976.
Principal Mr. Kevin D. Wall
Principal Kevin Wall is beginning his 5th year at Oglethorpe Charter School and his 9th year in school administration. Kevin is originally from Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and began his teaching career in Virginia. Kevin also taught many years in Tennessee. Kevin is married to Trish Wall, and they have 2 daughters that attend school in the Richmond Hill area.
Maintenance Supervisor Mr. Leon Williams
Maintenance Supervisor Leon Williams is maintenance supervisor at Oglethorpe Charter School. He has been at Oglethorpe since it's first year in 1999. He has also worked at Islands Elementary, Jenkins High School and Mercer Middle School (a total of 25 years employment with the Board of Education.) He has four children, three of which attended Oglethorpe. He has been married to Adrina Williams for 20 years. In his spare time, he ministers to children, takes photographs and sells Italian ice! He loves helping people, particularly the students and staff of Oglethorpe!
6th Grade Reading Mr. Percival Williams
6th Grade Reading Mr. Williams is the sixth grade reading teacher at OCS. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to Savannah at the age of two. He attended Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia, and left Clark to attend Savannah State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts education with a dual concentration in music and science from Armstrong Atlantic State University. In 2001, he received a master’s degree in education from Cambridge College. He is reading endorsed, is a reading specialist k-12, and is certified in the middle grades in science and social studies. He has taught social studies at Derenne Middle School, language arts at Shuman Middle School, and reading at Myers Middle School, as well as reading at Windsor Forest High School. Mr. Williams also taught developmental reading at Savannah Technical College. He currently is the tutor at Ashtree for Children in Savannah, Georgia. He is the minister of music at Second Saint Luke Baptist Church. Mr. Williams has four children: Jabez, Seth, Micah and Amon.
