PHILOSOPHY
The Middle School Athletic Program in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools
is an important part of the total educational process. Athletics provides opportunities
for learning experiences that are difficult to duplicate in other school activities.
The Athletics Program teaches student athletes attitudes of responsibility and cooperation
and provides a vehicle for student athletes to learn mental and physical self-discipline,
loyalty, personal pride in the school, and respect for the rights of others.
Young people learn a great deal from participation in athletics programs. Lessons
in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition and how to win and lose gracefully are integral
parts of our athletics program. Athletic participation also plays an important part
in helping each student athlete develop a healthy self-concept as well as a healthy
body and mind. Athletic competition also improves school spirit and helps student
athletes develop pride in their school.
GOALS
The goals in the middle school athletics program are to help student athletes:
- Develop and improve positive sportsmanship behavior,
- Develop and improve fundamental sports skills,
- Develop knowledge and strategy of the match, and
- Realize the value of participation without overemphasizing the importance of
winning.
COMMUNICATION
Any question, concern, grievance or suggestion concerning an athletics team or individual
should first be addressed with the head coach at an appropriate time and in an appropriate
manner. If the communication involves a grievance, and there is no resolution, the
school athletics director should be contacted. If there is still no resolution,
the principal should then be contacted. It is important that this protocol be followed
which will ensure open communication lines.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility requirements are currently being rewritten.

is valid for one calendar year.
